Easter is quickly approaching, and this year it falls neatly on Sunday 9th of April. If you’re in London over the Easter period and are wondering what to do, and are keen to take part in some Easter-specific activities, London has plenty on offer. Read on as we reveal some awesome happenings this Easter.

London is brilliant during Easter. With so much to offer, it can be hard to decide! From outdoor activities to West End shows, you’re spoiled for choice. In West London, you’re also surrounded by some of the capital’s most dazzling restaurants, bars and shops which will easily fill up your weekend.

Get Some Exercise

Easter is one of the best times to take a stroll in London’s many beautiful parks. In West London, there’s an abundance to choose from, whether you head to the Japanese Garden in Holland Park, admire the majestic sight of the Palace as you wander around Kensington Gardens, or venture further out to Richmond Park where you can walk, cycle and even see the resident deer.

Try renting a Santander cycle for a speedy way to get around different parks, or even rent an e-scooter if exercise isn’t quite what you need after an Easter feast.

Some of these parks often host easter egg hunts, so it’s worth keeping an ear to the ground if you’re planning to visit. If you don’t quite have the energy for a park, a short walk around the streets of West London could be just the thing.

If you’ve never been before, the pretty, colourful houses on Portobello Road make for a lovely Easter photo, especially if those gorgeous cherry blossoms have started to bloom. You can even visit the market afterwards to pick up souvenirs or have a bite to eat.

Watch A Performance

Each year on Easter Weekend, London’s Trafalgar Square holds a special production of the Passion of Jesus. This religious Easter play lasts 90 minutes and the two showings on Easter Sunday are completely free for the public, although the square usually gets extremely busy.

If standing in the cold isn’t your thing, consider booking one of London’s classic theatre shows instead. Just a short hop from West London is Victoria, where you can catch Wicked! or Hamilton, and further on are loads of West End theatres to choose from.

If, on the other hand, you are searching for something religious in the spirit of Easter, London is home to hundreds of beautiful churches which will put on special Easter services.

Big chapels such as Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey both offer large services, or in West London, smaller churches such as Christ Church or St. Mary Abbots may have local services.

An Egg-Friendly Easter Hunt

London regularly hosts some great Easter egg hunts, which are mainly for kids, but sometimes adults can take part too! This year’s hunts haven’t yet been announced, however, previous years have been held at Kensington Palace, Kew Gardens and the Chelsea Physic Garden.

These are usually super affordable and involve clues, plenty of chocolate and sometimes even games and workshops. This year, one of the most popular hunts, the Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt at Hampton Court Palace will be returning too, in the leafy west London neighbourhood of Richmond Upon Thames.

After the kids have had their share of the good stuff, you might be looking for a sweet treat too. Luckily, West London is home to some of the best chocolate shops, gelaterias and cafes in the city.

Try Knoops on High Street Kensington for incredible hot chocolate, or Leonidas close by for beautiful chocolate truffles. There’s also Läderach in Knightsbridge, selling authentic Swiss chocolate and on Piccadilly, the famous Fortnum & Mason’s usually displays a selection of huge chocolate eggs – and sells them too!

Indulge in a traditional Easter Sunday Roast

Easter falls on a Sunday, so what better way to celebrate than with a traditional Sunday roast? There is no shortage of places to enjoy this British institution, whether you’re looking for Michelin-starred dining or a rustic pub lunch.

Some of the best in West London include Hawksmoor in Knightsbridge which hand selects all of its cuts of beef individually, and The Anglesea Arms in South Kensington, which serves dishes like slow-roasted pork belly with all the trimmings.

Vegans and vegetarians shouldn’t worry either, since the capital has one of the best vegan dining scenes in the world. The Windsor Castle in Kensington is consistently busy thanks to their amazing Sunday nut roast, while Mildred’s has locations across the city and does alternative, Asian-inspired vegan food.

Vegans may be concerned that their Easter egg options will be thin on the ground, but some of the most delicious brands offer vegan eggs, including Hotel Chocolat, Lindt and Green & Blacks.

There are also many tempting chocolate shops in the capital selling creamy vegan goods, including Artisan du Chocolat which has a branch in Chelsea, Melt in Notting Hill which offers truffles and gift hampers, and renowned Italian brand Venchi which has various locations including the King’s Road, which sells vegan chocolate in a variety of flavours.
