Most of us are well aware of the limitless health benefits of exercise, however, often people struggle to find the time and discipline to not only start training but also stick with it.

In fact, research shows that 75% of people who set ‘keeping fit’ as their New Year’s resolution tend to quit before they see results. The reason for this is that usually, people find it challenging to actually follow through and ultimately become discouraged by their lack of progress.  

This especially becomes a challenge when the weather gets worse or your schedule becomes even more overwhelming. According to the official UK guidelines, adults should do strength exercises, as well as 150 minutes of moderate activity, or 75 minutes of high-intensity activity, every week. 

So, whether you’re at the beginning of your fitness journey or in need of some motivation, if you’re looking to level up your fitness routine,  several fitness challenges get ready to keep West London on its toes this month! And as the former date of the London Marathon approaches, we’re all seeking fresh and fun fitness challenges to help improve our health and happiness this month.

LLC Bike Ride

One of the best ways to see West London’s Georgian laneways and blossom-strewn parks is on a bicycle. Hop on and explore the hunting grounds of former kings, and the front doors of contemporary icons, on this cycle route through West London. You’ll start out at Ealing Broadway Station and finish up in the glorious Richmond Park, following a mostly flat route on easy terrain. 

Suitable for all ages and most fitness standards, the trail is a great option for sightseers who care about staying healthy. Check out the 20-page guide, Get Cycling, to find the traffic-free routes in the area. You can also map your progress using Bikely, searching for the routes labelled KCC1, KCC2, KCC3, KCC4, KCC5, and KCC6. 

London Zoo Stampede

Running to raise funds to protect endangered animals across the world sounds like a worthy cause to us! The ZSL London Zoo Stampede is a fundraiser which follows a route around the zoo itself and the iconic Regent’s Park, meaning visitors can catch some of London’s x route while staying healthy and helping out a charity. 

Everyone wins! 

Take part in the ZSL London Zoo Stampede on 17 April, 09:30. Registration fee £30, fundraising target £50. 

Fitness Speed Dating

Looking for a little holiday romance? Maybe you’ll find your London beau here, at the London Fitness Speed Dating event in Soho. Work up a sweat while you go on a series of mini-dates, and maybe match up with a cute, like-minded local. Once those endorphins are high and you’ve worked out your way through the line of singles, you’ll have already landed in the bar. Stay and enjoy a slice of the London nightlife. 

Take part in this exhilarating London Fitness Speed Dating event Be At One – Regent’s Street on 28 April, 19:00-21:15. Tickets are £20. 

Mind Body Spirit Festival

If you lean more towards holistic health and healing, the Mind Body Spirit Festival is also taking place this month. They’ll be running workshops with specialists in specific yoga branches, as well as in low intensity and meditative exercises. Spiritual seekers and urban hippies, this one is for you. 

The festival is running from 15-18 April, 09:00-18:00 at Olympia London. Ticket prices vary depending on chosen workshops but start at £15.

Hyrox London 2022 Workout

Hyrox has gained fame around the world because that’s where their workouts take place. The world’s biggest indoor fitness event is held in key cities across the globe, up to 3000 participants at a time take part in the same race, and the same set of exercises. Hyrox is designed for everybody, and every fitness level, an unintimidating team effort for anybody working on improving their health. 

You can compete solo or with a partner, and if you win you can even represent London in the global head-to-head final. 

The Hyrox London 2022 Workout event will take place at the ExCel Centre, Royal Victoria Dock, on 30 April, 09:00. Entry fee varies by seller or reseller, at a min of £69.
